Joan Martel Ball

Prior to her tenure with Hesburgh-Yusko, Joan was asked by the University provost to develop a set of multi-disciplinary summer programs for elite high school students. For ten years, she directed the University's Pre-College Programs, which continue to be an important recruiting function for the University. She also served as assistant director for Undergraduate Admissions at Notre Dame, managing all phases of college admissions from a 12-state territory in the western United States, as well as the recruitment coordinator for Native American students.From 2009 until recently, Joan served as associate director of the Hesburgh-Yusko Scholars Program, the University's first merit scholarship program, inspired by Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C., and dedicated to recruiting transformational leaders to the University. Joan played a key role in creating and managing the program, which brought to Notre Dame outstanding scholars from around the world. She has contributed to the internationalization of the student body through the close and fruitful relationships she developed with schools in Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America.Joan Martel Ball ('78) serves as program director for the Notre Dame Inspired Leadership Initiative.

Joan's prior career experience includes a wide range of roles in project management, marketing, and editorial and special events management with organizations including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the San Francisco Opera, Odwalla, Goldman Sachs, and Bank of America.

Throughout her career, Joan has been involved with music and theatre organizations, having performed with the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, American Bach Soloists, and locally with Opera Notre Dame, the South Bend Chamber Singers, Notre Dame Collegium, and South Bend Civic Theatre. She currently sings with Musical Arts Indiana's Vesper Chorale.

Joan earned a B.A. in Government and International Studies from Notre Dame.
